Peter Obi: Why Tinubu Must Resign Over Alleged Grand Corruption Under APC Government, Peter Obi said the reported expenditure was not captured in the 2025 budget, stressing it was outside legislative oversight and administrative scrutiny.

Peter Obi Say; the ₦8.83 trillion represents about two per cent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), more than 35 per cent of the country’s 2025 capital budget of ₦23.96 trillion, and exceeds the combined allocations for education and health.,

Peter Obi Say; maintained that, given the daily revelations of pervasive corruption in the current administration and its total lack of commitment to the welfare and security of Nigerian citizens, the only reasonable action is for President Tinubu to resign from office.

The (FG)  of Anambra State argued that the development was not an isolated case but part of a broader pattern of corruption under Tinubu’s administration.

  • About 2% of Nigeria’s GDP.
  • More than 35% of the 2025 capital budget of ₦23.96 trillion. In fact, it exceeds the actual capital funds released for 2025.
  • More than the combined 2025 budgets for education (₦3.52 trillion) and health (₦2.38 trillion).

Peter Obi said:

“If such an amount is properly utilised and accounted for, it could transform Nigeria’s public health and education sectors. It could establish hundreds of cottage industries, create jobs for thousands of graduates, and lay a solid foundation for economic development. Yet, we cannot account for it. This is not an isolated incident.

“This is a pattern of grand corruption that has become a defining feature of this administration. We have every reason to be concerned about the state of corruption under President Tinubu. The kind of corruption entrenched in a total disregard for basic public finance management principles poses a grave threat to national security and the stability of the Nigerian state. The capture of state institutions and the plundering of public resources undermine national stability while deepening poverty and state failure.

“This latest revelation shows that the APC government is grossly corrupt, incompetent, and insensitive. At a time of rising poverty and urgent infrastructure deficits, a responsible government would ensure that ₦8.83 trillion is prudently deployed to address these challenges. Unfortunately, that has not been the case under the Tinubu administration.

“A few days ago, I called on President Tinubu to resign over incompetence, lack of capacity, lack of compassion, and failure to fulfil his campaign promises. Some people believed that call was excessive. However, with the daily revelations of widespread corruption and the administration’s apparent disregard for the welfare and security of Nigerians, I believe the only reasonable course of action is for President Tinubu to resign.

“The erosion of due process under President Tinubu and the growing evidence of widespread looting of public funds reinforce the urgent need for accountability. It is now time for Nigerians to peacefully and lawfully demand accountability from this administration.”
